Bringing Toys From The Past To Your Playground

For 36 years, Terry Beck operated a body shop. A portion of the work was custom cars (full size) and vintage restorations. He loves the creative process of these jobs. After his shop was sold, he longed for the creative side of building cars, so he put his energy to a smaller scale shop with smaller scale vehicles.

Many of the toy vehicles have missing or broken pieces.  Terry's knowledge of metal gives him the edge in fabricating the missing metal parts needed to complete a piece.  He also has mig, tig, and spot welders to mend both steel and aluminum bodies.

The quality of the finish is foremost in his creative process.  He always uses the best of three processes to get the ultimate finished product result - be it stripping, sanding or beadblasting.

He built a miniature down-draft paint booth and a small scale beadblaster to get the best job possible on his restoration of small trucks and pedal cars.

Since most of the older toys were made from heavier gauge steel, he uses automotive paint to get the best match possible to the original since quality of the finish is his ultimate goal.

Above is an example of his restoration of a 1926 Buddy L flivver.  Below is an example of a restoration for Layland Museum in Cleburne, Texas of a 1925 Keystone dump truck.  The truck was totally painted over with yellow paint, but was basically all intact.

Be sure to check our Pedal Car Button for bodies that are ready for restoration.  One may be ready for you to create your own pedal car.
